Heavy rains in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have killed at least 50 people and injured 111 others since March 25. The victims include 26 children, 17 men, and 7 women.
The disaster has struck across 20 districts including Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mansehra, Battagram, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Hangu, Swat, Malakand, Dir, Charsadda, Mardan, Shangla, Buner, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Torghar.
A total of 470 houses have been damaged, with 409 sustaining partial damage and 61 completely destroyed. Rescue operations continue across the province. Over 120 people have been rescued in Peshawar alone.
Karachi recorded its highest-ever April rainfall as the nationwide death toll from rain-related incidents nears 70 since last month. Additional fatalities have been reported in Punjab province.
Meteorologists warn of another spell of heavy rainfall expected from April 16 to 19 across the province. Flood alerts have been issued for low-lying areas near rivers and streams. Afghanistan has also been heavily affected, with combined deaths across both countries exceeding 121 in two weeks.
