Meta has unveiled Muse Spark, the first major AI model developed under the leadership of Alexandr Wang at the newly established Meta Superintelligence Labs. The model represents a significant strategic shift for Meta, which has built its recent AI reputation on the open-source Llama family of models.
Muse Spark has achieved the top score on Humanity's Last Exam with 50.2 percent, and leads HealthBench Hard with a score of 42.8 — two of the most demanding AI evaluation benchmarks currently in use. These results position Meta's new model as a serious competitor to leading systems from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.
One of the model's most distinctive features is "Contemplating mode," which employs multi-agent parallel reasoning to tackle complex problems. Rather than generating a single chain of thought, the system runs multiple reasoning paths simultaneously and synthesizes their outputs, allowing it to approach difficult questions from several angles at once.
Muse Spark is available for free across Meta's ecosystem, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. However, unlike the Llama models that preceded it, Muse Spark is proprietary — a notable departure from Meta's previous commitment to open-source AI development. The shift signals Meta's intention to compete more directly with closed-model rivals while leveraging its massive user base for distribution.
