Manchester City reached the FA Cup final for a third consecutive season on Saturday after a late 2-1 win over Southampton at Wembley Stadium, with Nico Gonzalez striking from 30 yards out in the 87th minute to seal the comeback. The result keeps Pep Guardiola's treble bid alive heading into the closing weeks of the 2025-26 campaign.
According to NBC Sports, Outlook India, ESPN UK and Sports Illustrated, Southampton took a shock lead in the 79th minute through Finn Azaz. Jeremy Doku equalised four minutes later in the 83rd minute, with the Belgian winger's deflected shot beating Daniel Peretz in the Southampton goal.
Three minutes after the equaliser, in the 87th minute, Nico Gonzalez fired in from 30 yards out to put Manchester City in front, and the visitors saw out the closing minutes to reach the final.
The win sends Manchester City to the FA Cup final for the third consecutive season. Their opponent will be the winner of the other semi-final between Leeds United and Chelsea, per NBC Sports.
Pep Guardiola, ahead of the match, told the Manchester City club site: "We're focused on reaching another final."
The result keeps City's treble pursuit alive. According to Athlon Sports and Sports Illustrated, the club is tied with Arsenal at 70 points and a goal difference of plus 37 in the Premier League title race. The FA Cup final is scheduled for May 16, while City face a Champions League semi-final on April 28 and 29.
The semi-final win was the club's biggest European football headline of the day. The clutch late goal from Gonzalez extended a season in which City have repeatedly leaned on stoppage-time and late drama to keep their multiple trophy targets in play, with the next test coming in the Champions League semi-final.
