Just hours after the US-Iran ceasefire was announced, Israel launched a massive military operation against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, striking over 100 positions in approximately 10 minutes. The attacks killed at least 254 people and wounded more than 1,160.
The Israeli military conducted simultaneous airstrikes on Hezbollah positions across Lebanon, targeting weapons depots, command centers, and strategic installations. The speed and coordination of the strikes made this one of the largest single military operations in the region in recent decades.
Lebanon declared a national day of mourning. Hospitals are overwhelmed beyond capacity, and destruction in residential areas continues to be assessed. International aid organizations have called for immediate humanitarian access to affected zones.
The Trump administration stated that Lebanon was NOT included in the US-Iran ceasefire agreement. However, Iran directly contradicts this position, claiming Lebanon was part of the deal and that Israel's military action constitutes a clear violation of the agreement. This fundamental disagreement over the scope of the ceasefire has become Iran's primary justification for threatening to withdraw from the deal entirely.
