Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev received Muhsin Şentürk, Prosecutor General of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of Türkiye, on April 7. Discussions between the two brotherly nations focused on legal cooperation, joint efforts against crime, and regional security in the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, President Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan-Turkey relations continue to deepen across all spheres, including the legal system and prosecutorial structures. Muhsin Şentürk reiterated Türkiye's firm support for Azerbaijan and confirmed a shared approach to preserving public safety and upholding the rule of law. Both sides noted the importance of continuous dialogue between their judicial institutions.
The talks covered crime fighting, investigation of transnational offences, and cooperation against organized crime and smuggling networks. Procedures for extradition and mutual legal assistance agreements were also high on the agenda. Officials agreed to expand training exchanges between Azerbaijani and Turkish prosecutors.
In the regional security context, the discussion addressed stability in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. Azerbaijan and Turkey also shared their joint perspective on the impact of the Iran-US crisis on the region — both countries have close diplomatic and economic ties with all sides and have advocated for a diplomatic resolution. Prosecutor Şentürk concluded his Baku visit and returned to Anatolia.
The meeting also took place against the backdrop of the Baku-Yerevan peace process. Azerbaijan has presented a full peace agenda with Armenia for 2026, and notable progress continues to be reported on border delimitation, mutual recognition, and transport corridor negotiations between the two former adversaries.
